“Response pads may look simple: a piece of silicone, stick it in and you’re done. We still went through more than two dozen prototypes before our team was genuinely happy with iRiNGS.
What mattered to me was finding a balance where the pads do not unnecessarily slow the YoYo down during tricks, while still giving you a reliable Bind when you want it back. Soft, Medium and Hard then let you fine-tune that balance to your personal preference. The differences are intentionally subtle – but those small differences can matter to experienced players.”
Reliable Binds without unnecessary drag → designed to balance free string play with a secure return to your hand
More than two dozen prototypes tested → developed through extensive real-world testing by our team rather than simply chosen from a catalogue
Three hardness options for personal tuning → Soft for more response, Medium as the balanced standard and Hard for less response
Medium is our standard setup → this is the version we use as standard in our iYoYo models
The three versions mainly differ in how strongly the YoYo responds during a Bind and how quickly the pads wear.
Soft
The highest response of the three versions. The YoYo grips a little more directly during the Bind, while the softer material wears somewhat faster. A good choice if you intentionally prefer stronger response.
Medium
The balanced middle ground between response and durability. Medium is what we use as standard in our iYoYos and is our recommendation for beginners, intermediate players and basically anyone who does not want to overthink response-pad hardness.
Hard
Slightly less response combined with the longest durability. Interesting for experienced players who prefer a freer-playing YoYo and a slightly more subtle response.
If you are just starting out or have only recently begun playing unresponsive, there is no need to turn response-pad selection into a science. The differences between Soft, Medium and Hard are intentionally small.
For most players, we simply recommend Medium. Experimenting with the different hardness levels becomes more interesting once your play is advanced enough that you have developed very specific preferences.
Response pads are wear items. Repeated Binds gradually smooth and wear down their surface. If your YoYo starts returning less reliably even though your Bind technique is clean, worn response pads are one of the first things worth checking.
Simply remove the old pads, clean any residue from the recess and install the new self-adhesive iRiNGS.
