“With Skilfingr, the most interesting innovation is not only the shape – it is what is happening inside the YoYo. Modern 5A players often use very short strings, and that is where the smaller D-bearing makes real sense: more wraps around the bearing can generate noticeably stronger initial spin.
The Solid Core is just as interesting. The bearing is secured directly on the axle, creating a much tougher structure for hard 5A impacts. This really is a specialized tool for modern counterweight play.”
Many current 5A players use considerably shorter strings than in the past. A shorter string makes fewer wraps around a conventional C-size bearing during the throw, which can reduce initial spin.
The smaller D-bearing has a shorter circumference, allowing the string to wrap around it more often and transfer more energy into the YoYo.
Small bearings traditionally require thinner axles and more delicate bearing seats, which can become weak points during hard 5A crashes.
Skilfingr rethinks the internal structure by securing the bearing directly onto the solid axle. The Solid-Core system is designed to better handle demanding practice and the inevitable impacts of counterweight play.
Modern 5A freestyles increasingly feature horizontal and behind-the-back elements where additional width is extremely useful. At the same time, excessive size can make chopsticks and intricate mounts harder.
Skilfingr aims for that exact sweet spot: a huge catch zone, strong stability and enough precision for technical 5A play.
