TEQUiLA – probably the craziest performance YoYo iYoYo has ever made

“TEQUiLA was originally created as a surprise for the 2020 World YoYo Contest in Budapest – something that captured a bit of that special European mix of competition, community and everything happening around the contest itself. Then Worlds got cancelled, but the YoYo was simply too much fun not to make.
The funny part is that it looks like a joke, but plays shockingly well. The extreme width makes string catches ridiculously easy and the full aluminum construction gives it plenty of power. Definitely not a conventional competition YoYo – and that is exactly why I enjoy it so much.”

Made for a World Championship that never happened

The idea for TEQUiLA was developed together with Ze’ev Yehuda. For the 2020 World YoYo Contest in Budapest, we wanted to give players something that represented European YoYo culture a little differently: not only competition and performance, but also friendships, meetups and those memorable evenings after the contest.

Worlds was eventually cancelled, but we did not want the project to disappear with it. The planned contest surprise became a regular iYoYo release with a genuinely unique story. The artwork was created by Bryan Figueroa.

A novelty that plays surprisingly seriously

The entire shape resembles two shot glasses joined back to back. That makes TEQUiLA exceptionally wide and gives you a massive target for string catches. Mounts, hops and large movements become remarkably easy to hit.

The unconventional geometry does become more challenging when several string layers are packed closely together. That is part of its personality: TEQUiLA is not trying to be another sterile spec-driven competition design. It is meant to play differently, look different and above all be fun.

From responsive fun to unresponsive performance

TEQUiLA can be played responsive out of the box. For modern string tricks, simply install the included wide C-size bearing and longer axle and switch to unresponsive Bind play.

Underneath its outrageous appearance is a genuinely capable modern YoYo – just one that nobody is ever going to mistake for anything else.
